Timea Kalmar

Timea Kalmar was born in Subotica in 1975, where she completed primary and secondary music school in the class of professor Mirko Molnar. She graduated from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in the class of professor Ištvan Varga in 1999.
She completed her master’s studies at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in the chamber music department in the class of professor Ladislav Mezei in 2005. She obtained her second master’s degree – in cello – at the Faculty of Arts in Nis in the class of Professor Anatolia Krastev (Bulgaria) in 2008.

In 1997, together with her colleagues Aleksandra Krčmar Ćulibrk (violin), Jovanka Mazalica (violin) and Jelena Filipović (viola), she founded the string quartet TAJJ, in which she worked until 2026.
Since 2024, he has been collaborating with pianist Kosta Knežević in various chamber ensembles.

During her career, she was the leader of the cello group in numerous orchestras, including which are: Vojvodina Philharmonic, Subotica Philharmonic, Subotica Chamber Orchestra, Sarajevo Opera, Sarajevo Philharmonic, International String Orchestra (Slovenia), Camerata Academica, Novi Sad Soloists, Novi Sad Chamber Orchestra, NOMUS Festival Orchestra, Serbian National Theater Opera Orchestra, Zrenjanin Chamber Orchestra, Zrenjanin Philharmonic, Subotica Symphony Orchestra, Festival Orchestra of KotorArt, etc.

In addition to his performing activities, he is also actively involved in the organization of music projects. From 2008 to 2012, she was an assistant in the Ad libitum Music Workshop. In the period from 2007 to 2013, she was the artistic director of the KotorArt Festival Orchestra (Montenegro), and from 2017 to 2023, she was the manager of the same orchestra. As an associate of the NOMUS festival (2012, 2015 and 2016), she was in charge of organizing the Festival Orchestra.
He is also the artistic director of projects such as “Professor with love”, “Concert on the occasion of the 90th birthday of maestro Mladen Jagušt”, as well as the cycle “May Nights of Chamber Music” (2024), etc.
In 2023, as part of the European project “#synergy”, she was the mentor of twelve chamber ensembles and the manager of the festival tour.

She began her teaching career in 1996 at the “Isidor Bajić” Music School in Novi Sad, where she taught cello and chamber music. Since 2001, she has been employed at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad at the Department of Chamber Music, first as an assistant for a string quartet, and since 2008 as a professor of chamber music. She was elected full professor in 2018.

During the last eighteen years, her students have held more than a hundred concerts and won numerous awards at domestic and international competitions.
In her performing and teaching activities, Timea Kalmar pays special attention to contemporary art music, new compositions and premiere performances, as well as rarely performed works of chamber literature.
