Ljubomir Milanović

Ljubomir Milanović (viola) was born in 1973 in Vinkovci (Croatia). He graduated and received his master’s degree in Belgrade, at the Faculty of Music, in the class of prof. Petar Ivanovic. He continued his education in London (England) with prof. David Taken, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Ljubomir performed as a soloist with the Belgrade Philharmonic, the Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of the Strings of St. George. He collaborated with eminent artists such as Gordan Nikolić, Dejan Lazić, Julian Rachlin, Emanuel Pahud, Maxim Rysanov, Jack Liebeck, Andrii Viitović, Yuri Bashmet, Roman Simović, Irena Grafenauer, Ilja Grubert, Sreten Krstić, Kiril Rodin, Ksenija Janković, Wilfred Strele, Lorence Nasturica, Viktor Tretiakov, James Boyd, Louise Hopkins, etc. His performances in London were held in some of the most famous halls such as Barbican Center, Wigmor Hall, Saint James Piccadilly, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Guildhall and St George Roman Catholic Church.

During his rich orchestral career as solo viola in various orchestras in Serbia and Great Britain, he collaborated with distinguished conductors, some of whom are Sir Colin Davis, Ion Marin, Vladimir Ashkenazi, Zubin Mehta, Alekander Rahbari, etc. He participated in numerous projects in Europe, with different ensembles. In Denmark, he played with the Det Jiske ensemble and toured throughout Denmark, Greece and Syria. At the Stradun Fest, he performed with Gordan Nikolić and the renowned Croatian clarinet player Marija Pavlović.

In addition to standard viola literature, he regularly performs contemporary music. Some of the most famous Serbian composers (Zoran Erić, Ivan Jevtić, Svetislav Božić) dedicated their music to Ljubomir Milanović, recognizing him as an artist “with a great sense of structure, rich sound and exceptional technique”.

As one of the founders and solo violist of the Chamber Orchestra of Strings of St. George, he performed throughout the former Yugoslavia and Europe. In the last 35 years, he performed with this ensemble at more than 1,600 concerts. The concerts of the St. George Violinist received unanimous praise from the audience and laudatory professional reviews, both in the country and abroad. In addition to published reviews, radio and TV recordings and 17 compact discs testify to the orchestra’s high reach. Ljubomir participated in festivals in Serbia such as Bemus, Nomus and the International Composers’ Review. He recorded for radio and television.

Ljubomir Milanović works as a viola professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade.
