Nikolas Efthymiou

Being attracted to the game of sound from a very early age Niko­las Efthymiou found finally on the viola an inex­haustible pool of pos­si­bil­i­ties to form and trans­form his dreams. From an early age he was introduced to the traditional music of Cyprus/Greece which not only influenced his approach to Music in general but also his teaching methodology.

Finishing his studies on the Cyprus Classical Conservatory, he moves in Germany where he commenced his formal training initially in Hochschule fuer Music Wuerzburg and in “Franz Lizst” Hochschule Weimar, where he graduates in 2006 with a master’s degree in instrumental pedagogy.  During his studies he had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from renown musicians like T.Zehetmair, V.Klimov, T.Brandis, W.Christ, E.Krueger,Cr. Euler, L.Matczynsky. He also had the opportunity to perform in prestigious venues across Europe both as an orchestra member, chamber musician and soloist. He had also the opportunity to study and teach in innovative music programs for talented young musicians sponsored by the state of Thuringia.

In 2007 he returns to Cyprus where parallelly to his performances, he embarks on a teaching career that will span almost 2 decades. His dedication to nurturing young talents and instilling a profound appreciation for classical compositions became his hallmark. Many of his students went on to achieve prominence in the world of both classical and ethnic music. Notable for his innovative teaching methods, Nikolas seamlessly integrated traditional techniques with modern approaches giving a lot of weight to improvisation and adaptability to different musical styles. Since 2014 he is teaching in Cyprus Youth Orchestra where he is responsible for its string section. In 2019 he has joined the faculty of the newly established program of Cyprus University school for exceptionally talented young musicians. He is also founder of Cyprus viola association.

Nikolas Efthymiou is happily married with two lovely daughters
